| Dormitory Information for Overseas Students |
|
To create a worry-free life for all students, we offer the Waseda International Dormitory, called WID by Waseda University and Kyoritsu Maintenance Co,. Ltd. and the Waseda Recommended Dormitory.
The Two Dormitory Types
Waseda International Dormitory (WID)
WID is a dormitory run by Waseda University exclusively for Waseda University students. There are a coed dormitory, 3 men's and 5 women's dormitories in this international dormitory which houses Japanese and overseas students. In WID, English-speaking Resident Assistants (RA) will be living with you. We believe many overseas students who have just arrived to Japan have trouble adapting to the new culture, language, and geography. By having RA in the same dormitory, they'll be able to answer questions about life in Japan as well as school related questions. Living on your own can be easy! You'll create bonds with upper-classmates around the same age (for WID, mostly university graduates) who will give you advice which differs from what is given by the dormitory managers.
Waseda Recommended Dormitory
The Waseda Recommended Dormitory is not for only Waseda University students, but for all students going to the various schools in Japan. There are no RA in this dormitory; however, they have dormitory managers similar to WID to help you. In WID and the Waseda Recommended Dormitory, there are men's, women's and coed dormitories which were first utilized by Japanese students and, now, many overseas students. Many cultures and languages intermingle in this international environment. |

At the end of the contract, a room cleaning fee will be deducted from the deposit. If you want the deposit to be wired to an overseas bank account, you will be in charge of paying the wire transfer fees.
The deposit will not be refunded should you cancel before the end of the contract.
You will be charged a room cleaning fee when leaving the dormitory.
You will be charged 70% of the entrance fee upon contract renewal in WID type-C and Share House Dorms.
Entrance fee will not be refunded.
Other than WID type-C dorms, you do not have the option to pay for boarding fees without the food fee. *Refer to the FAQ under gboarding feesh.
You may be charged for repairs depending on the condition of your room.
Building maintenance charge, which includes fire insurance, will be billed once a year. |
|
|
|
Contract Renewal
|
Will I need to pay another deposit or entrance fee when renewing my contract?
E The deposit and entrance fee is only charged at the time of the contract and will not be charged when renewing your contact.
E You will be charged 70% of the entrance fee upon contract renewal in WID Type-C dormitories. Furthermore, should you make a new contract after canceling, you will be charged starting with the down payment. |

INTERNET
|
| [1] |
Is the internet fee fixed? If I decide not to use the internet or IP telephone, can the communication equipment fee be removed from my bill? |
Internet is included in the communication equipment fee costing 3,780 yen per month. This is a fixed fee that is charged whether you use it or not.
Because Share House dormitory doesn't have an IP telephone, the communication equipment fee is 2,205 yen per month. This is also a fixed fee, and you will be charged whether you use it or not.
| [2] |
Can I make my own internet contract with a different provider? |
EThe dormitories have their own private lines, and you may not make a contract with a different provider. |

Boarding Fees
|
| [1] |
I'll be returning home during the summer vacation. Will I have to pay the boarding fees while I'm gone? |
Within the contract period, you will be billed for housing and all the fixed fees even if you are not actually living there.
| [2] |
There are days when I won't eat at the dormitory. Will the meal be subtracted from my housing fee? |
E As overseas students get a special rate for meals, there is no option to "not pay the food expense" in dormitories other than WID Shimoigusa , WID Nishi Tokorozawa and WID Kodaira. The housing rate is fixed. These WID Type- C rooms may choose to pay for the meal plan at the time of contract. The contract may be changed once. |

Bedding Rental
|
| [1] |
I'm thinking about signing up for the bedding, etc. Can I cancel or modify my lease period once I've applied? |
If you wish to cancel or modify the lease period for bedding and/or appliances, please contact us 1 week before moving into the dormitory. Should you cancel or modify the lease period after that day, absolutely no refunds will be made.
| [2] |
What is a sunoko bed? |
A sunoko bed is only the bed frame; mattress is not provided. Those who want to use their own bedding must also bring their own mattress. Japanese-style mattresses will be provided when using the rental service in dormitories that have sunoko beds. *Check to see which WID uses sunoko beds here.
(http://www.gakuseikaikan.com/dp/waseda/index_E.html) Please contact us if you would like to know the type of bed provided in dormitories not listed here.
| [3] |
I want to use my own bedding. About how big is the bed? |
The size of the bed may differ a little depending on the dormitory, but the average size is about 196cm by 100cm (77in by 39in).
| [4] |
What is provided in the bedding lease? |
A desk, blanket, quilt, bed pad, pillow cover, quilt cover, and sheets are provided as a set. You may only lease them as a set. Clean sheets will be exchanged 3 days a month. *Those who take a 1 year contract will be provided with brand new bedding items. Moving In
|
Normally spring students can move in from April and autumn students in September, however, we will tell you exactly which day you move in. The move-in date will be provided with your application results. Please contact us directly if you would like to move in the middle of a semester or on a month other than the above.
The move-in date may differ depending on the course you take.
The move-in day is the start of your contract, and after applying, changes to your contract cannot be made. Please take your time to think it through once the move-in date has been set.
You may not move in on Sundays or Holidays. Those who cross the International Date Line should be aware of the date difference.

It's my first time coming to Japan. Is there an easy way to get to the dormitory? |
We can provide an escort under the following conditions. We will provide you with an escort to meet you at a station at the time of your arrival. From there, you will follow your escort using public transportation (mainly trains).
The meeting location will be a station chosen by us. You must get to that station on your own.
An escort can meet you only on the days we've chosen. You must choose a flight which arrives in Narita International Airport from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
You will need to use public transportation, so please make sure you have Japanese Yen beforehand.
You may not change or cancel once you've applied. If for some reason you need to cancel, we will deal with it case by case.
In the interest of time, please be as fast as possible at the airport and other stops.
The meeting place may differ depending on the course taken.
You may be required to wait a bit if the trains run late. |
